Think Safe has been innovating in the industry since 2000.
EID stands for Emergency Instruction Device (EID), a dedicated “smart” mobile technology device that provides interactive audio and LCD text instructions to guide users through emergencies. Think Safe owns the rights to this patented technology. An EID reduces the panic factor that accompanies traumatic situations and enables anyone at the scene to take effective and decisive action until professional EMS or other advanced care assistance arrives. It is ideal for use during multiple rescuer situations. It’s also a useful tool for interactive first aid training and can be combined with a variety of other tools available from Think Safe and our dealer network. Think Safe brands include First Voice® (in the U.S.) and Rescue Mate (in Europe). While the EID naming convention is mostly used in the U.S. there are certain dealers that also market the device as a “First Aid & CPR Assist” device. Think Safe has approved the use of both terms for this first aid technology and training device. Think Safe has the only EID on the market today and will consider private label contracts with qualified parties.
An EID is designed for anytime training and real-time training that is a supplement to a best practice training and first aid or emergency response program. Certified training options are available from First Voice® Training that are likely to be more affordable than other training centers or your current training provider. The First Voice Training network offers Certified and nationally accredited training options for instructor-led, online, or blended solutions.
SET stands for Self-contained Emergency Treatment (SET) System, a comprehensive system for first aid training and emergency response. SET Systems organize everything needed for response in one convenient kit – an EID, prepackaged treatment and first aid supplies that are color-coded and labeled to the match the EID trauma buttons, rescuer personal safety supplies, and clean-up supplies. Certain models also include a compartment for storage and transport of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) or oxygen. Think Safe is the only SET System manufacturer and owns the patented technology and IP protecting the SET System. Think Safe’s SET System (including the EID) brings a new generation of smart first aid devices and tools for workplace and public or personal use. Think Safe brands include First Voice® (in the U.S.) and Rescue Mate (in Europe).
Â
In a medical emergency, 4 minutes can be the difference between life and death. Yet, 911 response times average 10-12 minutes in urban areas and significantly more in remote locations. What’s more, professional response teams and 911 dispatch centers are increasingly overloaded with calls. The people first at the scene of an emergency are in a key position to make a difference – but even individuals with first aid training often freeze because of panic, fear of doing the wrong thing, or concerns about liability. EIDs and SET Systems provide reassuring coaching, reliable instructions, and key reminders to overcome these barriers and provide quick and simple yet effective care to victims. When someone needs help, Think Safe’s equipment lets you make every minute count until advanced care takes over.
The touchpad on the EID contains 12 trauma buttons (color coded and with icons) corresponding to different emergency categories, literally allowing you to train on utilize the device during any emergency event. Within each of these categories are instructions programmed into a complex proprietary algorithm or logic tree to address events in the right order of severity (based upon user Yes/No answers to questions provided).
Emergency instructions include but are not limited to:
Once the SET System is activated or the EID is turned on, the device employs a series of yes/no prompts to coach the responder through the assessment of an injury (audio matched by scrolling text on LCD screen). Based on one-touch responses about the injury and victim, the unit provides treatment protocols that apply to the nature and severity of the injury and to the needs of the victim (age, pregnant, etc). For example, the burn button provides specific instructions for thermal (fire, heat, steam, and liquid), chemical, electrical, and flash burns and based upon severity of the burn. The SET System contains the matching organized supply packs that correspond to the EID trauma button or category topic. All supply packs are prepackaged and heat sealed to ensure they are ready for use.
You’ll find the EID and SET systems in a variety of environments, including: Corporate and industrial settings Education centers or Training Center provider locations or in their supplies inventory High-risk and remote areas where injuries are likely to occur Community centers and churches Camps and parks First aid closets Emergency Response or Shelter in Place designated areas in buildings Mounted next to Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in buildings Public venues with lots of attendees or traffic Schools and childcare centers Security guard stations or vehicles Sports facilities or complexes Health care facilities and sporting events Marine environments First responder and law enforcement agency vehicles or trailers Public Safety response vehicles, buildings or trailers
The EID or SET Systems are designed for use by anyone. The EID touchpad is clearly organized and simple to use. Of course, for ultimate emergency readiness, prior training in first aid and CPR is recommended and limited device training is advised. In addition, many organizations have emergency response plans, which designate individuals responsible for using this and other emergency equipment, such as automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
Yes. Contact Us at Think Safe today to schedule or receive your demo.
The type of SET system depends on the environment where the SET system is going to be used and your portability and storage environment. Contact Think Safe today to find out what type of SET system would be ideal for your organization.
The general rule is that a SET system should be accessible within 2-4 minutes from anywhere in your facility. Therefore, generally anywhere you place an AED you should consider placing a kit or SET system. If you are a lower risk of injury workplace an EID and First Voice® first aid kit (10, 25 or 50 person) should be considered for mounting next to an AED. However, every organization’s deployment needs may be unique. A good rule of thumb is that a SET system is recommended in any location more than four minutes away from advanced medical care. In large facilities, several SET systems may be needed to ensure adequate coverage. Basically, wherever you have an AED you should consider whether a SET, First Aid kit, or EID is also needed at that location. Contact Think Safe for a free consultation.
An EID can be easily mounted on the wall with the purchase of the EID wall mount. This wall mount comes with one mounting screw and instructions. Alternatively, the EID can be stored inside a SET System and the SET System can also be hung on the wall using a wall mount that is available from Think Safe. The SET System also may potentially fit into a wall cabinet. Lastly, the EID can be stored inside a soft carrying case or a rugged lifetime guaranteed Pelican case.

Each insurance company handles these requests individually, but the potential for premium reduction does exist. Many of our customers enjoy significant insurance credits after purchasing a First Voice® system or other Think Safe products. Contact Think Safe for specific information about available discounts.
The EID and SET system are designed for long term use and are intended to have a lifespan that would exceed 10-20 years. Lifespan will depend on amount of use and appropriate maintenance and upkeep being performed by your organization. The warranty on the EID and SET system are for 3 years but servicing can be performed after the warranty expires.
A variety of grants are available to fund the purchase of First Voice® equipment. In addition, we offer grant-finding and grant-writing services for volunteer fire, EMS, camps, schools, and other organizations. Fundraising options and leasing are also available. Yes, we provide a flexible mix of products and services so you can purchase the pieces that are right for you. From downloading our ResQr software onto your existing hardware or mobile device to purchasing our EID or cases, we’re committed to helping you get exactly what you need.
No. You can purchase the EID and/or software without the supplies.
Each First Voice® SET system comes stocked with prepackaged first aid and other needed supplies, organized and color-coded to the corresponding emergency. The EID tells you when and how to use the supplies in each pack. Supplies range from splints and wound dressing supplies to protective equipment.
Only non-latex supplies are available, as are upgraded supplies, such as clotting solutions and burn dressing kits. Because we buy in bulk from manufacturers, were able to pass on cost savings to you. Our patent-pending AmpuSave pack is included with each system.
AmpuSave is the only product of its kind that provides supplies needed for the preservation and transport of amputated digits, fingers, toes, or tissue in one package. In addition, we make it easy to restock your supplies. As a bonus, the Think Safe inventory management system lets you track what you’ve used and what you need (i.e. First Voice Manager).
By simply calling 888-473-1777 or visiting our First Voice Website and clicking on the Products tab, you can restock your system so that it’s always complete and ready to go. Call for more details regarding our inventory management system, a complimentary service when you purchase certain products from Think Safe.
Yes. AEDs save lives, increasing survival rates for victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) from under 10% to over 60% if used within the first few minutes of collapse. AEDs are needed for emergencies where EMS response is greater than 4-6 minutes and AEDs address the biggest killer in the United States. Over 300,000 people annually die from SCA and an AED is the equipment that is most likely to save their life. All brands of AEDs are offered by Think Safe and we will be happy to help you identify the best model for your needs. Various First Voice® SET systems have AED compartments that allow for clear viewing of the AED’s active status. When you purchase an AED as part of a SET system, you will also receive a substantial discount on your AED as well.
Good Samaritan laws generally protect rescuers acting in good faith by providing immunity from civil lawsuits in the event first aid is unsuccessful. In addition, the EID provides reference to obtaining permission before helping a victim. It is expected that use of the EID or SET Systems will reduce liability by helping rescuers manage an emergency according to established treatment protocols, rather than providing inappropriate care or doing nothing at all.
Think Safe products such as the EID or SET Systems help to overcome the retention issues associated with conventional classroom instruction. Studies show that over 50% of knowledge is forgotten after just 6-9 weeks.
The EIDs deliver just-in-time refresher training, and our product mix provides hybrid resources to strengthen learning. Away from the scene, the EID can be used for training anytime – both for initial first aid/CPR training and scenario-based skill refreshment.
The EID comes with access to our downloadable Training Scenarios Packet. These scenarios allow for training in short sessions on any emergency while practicing to use the EID or other equipment from Think Safe. Scenarios come with quizzes that have an answer key master for scoring by the in-house trainer in charge of thee training.
Think Safe’s First Voice ResQr® software (or Virtual EID software) can also be loaded onto a computer and projected onto a screen for classroom instruction. Or it can be accessed via wireless connection using any internet with a SaaS license purchased from Think Safe.
In addition, Think Safe offers First Voice Training, (www.firstvoicetraining.com) an online and trainer-based education learning management system available from any computer. Instructor led and blended (both online and instructor led) training are also popular options for training from our First Voice Training network of over 300 instructors. The First Voice courses provide training in the use of our equipment and first aid/CPR protocols, accompanied by quick self-tests to assess and archive user knowledge.
Yes. Special environments call for upgraded supplies such as blood clotting agents or gauze, tourniquets, burn dressings or burn blankets, or other items to address high risk injuries that might occur at the workplace or organization.
Yes. All SET Systems meet or exceed OSHA / ANSI compliance standards. In addition, the supplies are compliant to the needs of lay rescuers and their appropriate scope of practice. Advanced care supplies can also be purchased as upgrades, if desired.
The protocols that are programmed into the sophisticated software program algorithm tree are written by technical experts with hundreds of cumulative years experience in the first aid, AED and emergency response industry. All protocols are in conformity with guidelines set by the most recent first aid & CPR science released by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross, other major accredited training organizations and Department of Homeland Security. Our copyright-protected protocols are similar to those used by 9-1-1 providers and are approved by medical directors. Protocols are OSHA compliant, as OSHA defers to not one specific organization but rather conformity to AHA or Red Cross equivalent protocols.
The creators of First Voice® designed the software to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible yet prevent any skipping of key reminders. The interactive yes/no questions eliminate unnecessary information and provide only the protocols needed for the situation at hand. It generally takes 60-90 seconds to run through a specific protocol. During your demo, make sure you specifically review the almost instantaneous CPR coaching or AED use reminders and instructions provided by the EID. During demonstration, the users can also elect to move forward when they are ready for more sophisticated instructions as other rescuers arrive to help.
Although First Voice® is highly intuitive and may be used by anyone at the scene, additional training in use of the equipment and basic life support protocols is highly recommended. This training is available through our E-learning program at www.firstvoicetraining.com. In addition, dealers or First Voice® Trainers can be hired to perform specialized equipment training or training drills that integrate with EID training and use.
Yes. The EID will provide users information under Multiple Injury for both situations.
First Voice® EIDs are fully updatable via a built-in port that allows you to change out a simple data card in the EID (and send back the old data card to show your update is completed). Updates are low cost especially if the core data card is returned to Think Safe.
Yes. Click here to see current AHA recommendations for cognitive feedback equipment and how the EID stacks up.
Currently First Voice® is available in the United States with English and Spanish as the default languages. Other countries have other EID languages, based upon our distributor network. Think Safe manufactures the Rescue Mate EID in Europe.
Yes. Contact Think Safe for more information on language configurations for your region. When multiple languages are on the device, the “Language” button can be pressed for immediate switching to the protocols currently being given, allowing immediate translation. This feature is helpful for multiple language workplaces or environments where many different languages are spoken.
Regular inspections at least 2 times per year are encouraged to ensure your equipment is in active status and proper working order. A monthly inspection is advised especially when the user has an AED with their SET system. The SET systems come with tamper evident seals and the EID is very easy to inspect and inspections will take under 5 minutes. The Think Safe online software solution (www.firstvoicemanager) allows for automated inspection reminders and inspections can be done using any mobile internet accessible device. Think Safe does have a recommended equipment inspection checklist template that is available for client use. Contact Think Safe to find out more about this online software solution or to get a copy of this inspection template.
Yes. Updates are performed by opening a special port and simply changing out a proprietary data card that is provided by Think Safe for an upgrade fee.
The cost of upkeep is minimal. The SET systems are designed to have minimal supplies that expire and have a 2-3 year shelf life minimum for any expirations. The customer will receive expiration date replacement reminders if the device is registered on the Think Safe tracking software (www.firstvoicemanager.com). Replacement supply refills are very inexpensive with MSRPs that are generally under $10-$15. In addition, the EID protocol updates are under $50 and more affordable with a core data card returned to Think Safe upon update completion. Batteries for the EID are 3 AA off-shelf alkaline batteries, keeping ongoing replacement costs minimal in your first aid or emergency response program.
First Voice® EIDs and SET Systems are designed for just these kinds of worst-case scenarios. The EID is ADA compliant with both visual and audio instructions. In terms of night or low-light environments, EIDs come with a backlit LCD text display. First Voice® is designed to be splash-proof and water-resistant. We also offer clear protective coverings for the EID, water-tight models, and a variety of durable cases.
The EID runs on 3 “AA” cell alkaline batteries, and an automatic self-test is completed by the EID regularly to ensure enough battery life is remaining for operation of the EID. The EID has a low battery indicator. The standby life in the EID is up to 2 years for off-shelf new alkaline batteries. Batteries are recommended to be checked twice yearly and replaced annually as a best practice or a spare set of batteries kept with the EID or SET system.
Simply hit the universal “ON” button and hold it for more than 1 second.
The EID will begin to speak and the LCD will scroll text to match what is being said. When an emergency button is pressed on the touchpad, the EID asks a series of questions about the emergency.
Users press Yes or No in response to the questions. Based on this input, the software powering the EID delivers instructions tailored to the specific nature of the situation from sophisticated programmed algorithms. The EID coaches the user through such things as scene safety, checking for consciousness, personal protection, first aid protocols, and when and how to use the supplies in the SET System.
For example, if the Seizure/Diabetic button is pressed, the First Voice EID will:
If the victim has a serious injury, such as severe bleeding, the First Voice®EID will:
Yes. All SET System supplies are latex-free. Certain upgrades are not latex free but customer would receive notice of this in advance of purchase.
Yes. The EID has a Pause button with a universal pause symbol that allows users to stop the instructions at any time. The text and the audio will pause. Once Pause button is pressed again, the EID resumes where it left off. The Pause feature will not work to resume the EID after the device automatically turns off due to the automated shut off timer feature (to save on battery life). If the EID automatically shuts off due to non-use (10 minutes) the user will have to go back through instructions to resume instructions where they left off. As emergencies mature, things change and events happen quickly and the EID is designed to give real-time feedback that is appropriate for the current situation. Thus, the bookmark feature (resuming the EID instructions where it left off) was not programmed into the EID to help protect the user and be relevant for real-time use as well as training use.
Yes. The EID has a Back or Next button to allow for going to the last several instructions or proceeding more quickly to certain instructions (for those that use the device regularly they will not need certain reminders or can forward through some protocols faster). Read the instruction manual for the EID for more details. Back to top
Thousands of instruction segments are in the EID and the custom designed program algorithms that run the EID.
The EID has a top row of emergency or trauma buttons that correspond to the most urgent and most frequent emergencies, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (ER visits and Hospitalizations) and National Safety Council’s Injury Facts.
The training offered by the EID is refresher training and supplements certified training. However, the First Voice Training Network owned by Think Safe does have certified training and integrated training systems that meet and exceed OSHA standards as well as many other industry standards.
